Project Summary

We were approached to participate in the design of a brand-new pizza restaurant in Edmonton. Fn’za prides itself on serving California-style pizza, featuring innovative twists on traditional recipes. We had the honor of providing mechanical and electrical engineering services for their location in a commercial retail unit of an existing tower on the edge of downtown Edmonton.

Project Goals

This project aimed to create a truly exceptional restaurant location that not only reflects the heart of the fn’za brand, but also respects the construction and food service standards in Canada. We understand how important quality and comfort are to restaurant guests, and that's why we committed to incorporating advanced mechanical and electrical systems that enhance the dining experience while promoting sustainability.

Our Solutions

Based on strict instructions from the restaurant's ownership and management team, we ensured that the operations and design of the chain adhered to the company’s standards. We were responsible for designing the kitchen ventilation, general HVAC distribution ductwork, plumbing, power distribution, lighting, and fire alarm systems.

One specific challenge we faced was the inconvenient location of the base building services, particularly the sanitary drainage, which was situated at the ceiling of the parkade below. Existing structural reinforcements in the concrete limited the placement of drainage pipe penetrations through the floor. However, by carefully coordinating with the kitchen designer, we developed a floor plan that facilitated an efficient kitchen workflow while also allowing for straightforward and code-compliant installation of the drainage system.

Result

The successful completion of the fn'za project demonstrates our commitment to excellence. The newly opened restaurant serves as a modern and progressive pizza destination. Guests are welcomed into a relaxed and easy-going atmosphere, enhanced by our innovative mechanical and electrical systems.
